Meadow Daydream

Today, I came across a beautiful meadow located in Hampton, Florida. Being lucky enough to get there while the brightly-colored yellow flowers were still in bloom, I rejoiced at the opportunity and, taking advantage of it, started snapping pictures! The magnificent tranquility of the scene that was laid out before me made me think of the following passage:

“They now came upon more and more of the big scarlet poppies, and fewer and fewer of the other flowers; and soon they found themselves in the midst of a great meadow of poppies. Now it is well known that when there are many of these flowers together their odor is so powerful that anyone who breathes it falls asleep, and if the sleeper is not carried away from the scent of the flowers, he sleeps on and on forever.”

— L. Frank Baum, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz

Recreating this scene starring myself as Dorothy (sadly, it was too late to go back and get some sparkly silver or red shoes) and the field of gorgeous flowers as the trance-inducing meadow depicted in The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, I introduce to you guys the “Meadow Daydream” photo shoot.

Dorothy walks into the meadow, blissfully unaware of its intoxicating powers.
Becoming increasingly fatigued as she wanders throughout the field, Dorothy sits down.
She feels a powerfully strong magnetic force drawing her closer and closer to the ground.
With a mind already numb about Kansas memories and her dear friends, Dorothy forgets more and more in a matter of minutes.
The deceptively sweet blossoms lure Dorothy in. She falls asleep.
Luckily, Dorothy is saved by her courageous companions. They all walk off together, leaving behind a serenely empty landscape.
